About this deal

I found this a lovely, touching, and heartwarming read and will definitely be looking to read/listen to more books from this author. Even the brief mentions of what it felt like in recovery were enough to make me cry with feeling like I had been seen. This is a story that has such charm to it that it simply pulls you in without your notice so it can strike you right where it hurts the most. It was really predictable (especially with the cover too) but I personally I don't think thats an issue. The way that this book addresses the fears of both survival and self-esteem afterwards are so amazing that I was left wondering who read my diary.

But Hussey skillfully weaves in a more serious undercurrent, while still keeping the overall tone light, and doesn't overlook the challenges faced by young LGBTQ+ people today. is one of my favourite authors, and I have loved all of his books, especially The Outrage and Killing Jericho. I'm currently not in the mood (or state) for to heavy and dark stuff, so I really appreciate books like this one. The body image issues are very relevant and tie in well with the internet-driven prejudices about appearance that dominate teens and YAs thinking.

Das ganze Buch ist in der Ich-Perspektive geschrieben und gibt einen wundervollen Einblick in das Leben des Jungen, den wir begleiten. Pulling from his own personal experience, this story of a talented teen filmmaker who discovers he needs open heart surgery is an emotional ride as Jesse tries to get his Zombie movie filmed before he goes under the knife. I particularly appreciated the focus on body insecurity and how challenging it can be when you don’t look a way that society deems as attractive. Some of the plot "twists" were quite evident from context, but that didn't completely remove their impact. Es ist mir vollkommen egal, ob manche Situationen / Szenen ein wenig over the top sind, denn alles ist so passend und niedlich.

Brilliant representation of up to the minute issues faced by both young and older people around body issues.I've only read books by Simon James Green that can tackle emotionally upsetting moments with hilarious comedic moments and not feel like emotional whiplash. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I love how nowadays a cover with two cute gay boys on it is seen as a major selling point rather than an obstacle. The characters were great and lovely, the start of the book was very good and the writing was alright! Jesse Spark has a broken heart and in a few short weeks he’ll require major surgery to repair it – which means he only has a month to accomplish two almost-impossible tasks.

This is a heartfelt (pun intended), heart warming (sorry I'll stop), heart wrenching (okay I'm done for real) story of self-esteem, courage, achievement, friendship, and above all, love. The problem is, he has a heart condition that will put him under a knife in 2 months, so time is of the essence. relatable depictions of self image/ confidence and body positivity , loving your body can be hard especially for teenagers and i just loved how this book presented that but also pushed the important message of ; scars are beautiful and so are we as people !Which sounds a little weird maybe, seeing as the book deals with the MC's upcoming open heart surgery, but the book doesn't feel heavy at all. Like his counterparts, Jesse was this lovely blend of wholesome and starry-eyed, also hilariously rambly at times and so relatable in his insecurities, as he navigated his complex friendships and crushes, lifelong and new, all while making his zombie movie passion project and dealing with a scary new health crisis. But since I've joked that open heart surgery has lowkey made me a zombie (ya know, the whole heart-stopping-and-then-restarting thing?
