About this deal

Although not as comprehensive as the other Collins tree guide, it's a handier size and I find it easier to ID from photographs than from drawings, so the two books go well together. The perfect accompaniment for a trip out into the woods, no nature lover’s bookshelf is complete without this guide to our wonderful trees. Sample identification section:Silver Birch Betula pendula (Betulaceae) height to 26mA slender, fast-growing deciduous tree with a narrow, tapering crown when young and growing vigorously.

Includes sections on trees and woodlands, history of woodland management and conservation and threats to British woodland. These are not the same for all trees, because one feature may be more distinctive on one than another.

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Individual species are then thoroughly described and a detailed illustration features on the same page. Every species is illustrated with photographs of leaves, fruits, twigs and bark for easy identification. There is no key at the begining so it makes it difficult to accuratly identify the tree your looking at, but the pictures and descriptions and measurments are very accurate, providing you can recognise the family the tree is from. Each species is covered in detail with information on how to identify, whether from a leaf, twig, bark or whole tree, plus extra information on where the tree grows (including a map), how high they grow, what uses it is put to and history. It might not be the most informative, in-depth or well-organised tree identification guide out there, but I find it pretty good.

This is the ideal pocket guide for travelling naturalists and tree enthusiasts alike and is an essential addition to every nature lover's bookshelves. A slender, fast-growing deciduous tree with a narrow, tapering crown when young and growing vigorously.

Every species is also comprehensively illustrated with photographs of every useful feature bark, leaf, seed, flower, twig and whole tree. A key system allows you to quickly narrow down a tree to its family based on its leaves, buds or firs.
