About this deal

While an Orb holder came with the Temple of Darkness Sorceress figure, it ended up being too tall for the small room so Mattel included another one with this set. Together, the combined sword was used as a key to open the jawbridge to the Castle Grayskull playset. This is a pretty sweet piece and while it's not too different than what we've seen if feels sturdier than any other releases.

Sure, it is not the scale I mainly collect these days, and Classics will likely always be my collector grade MOTU line, but so much of this line is do danged charming. When given the same attention as a real baby, she produces over 20 different noises, including coos, babbles, and chuckles. It is described as built by unknown beings before the Great War that wiped the old technology of Eternia.

While the set comes with one shield (it's a simple silver remold of He-Man's shield) this is a nice place to display various weapons pack shields. In the original television series, Castle Grayskull is a legendary/mythical location situated on a pedestal of bones jutting out of an abyss in a barren plain just on the edge of the Evergreen Forest. These rely on a swivel, not a flexible piece of plastic or tabs like previous castles, so no need to worry about them breaking over time.

Much of the details are sculpted this time around, but there is still a good bit of stickers to attache in spots like the flag, throne, and famous dungeon grate, so be sure to take a steady hand. It was presented as a matte painting, and only appeared once, to reduce the cost of sets and models. I was a bit tentative about this release at the start because due to the size and everything else, it was just too easy to make direct comparisons to the vintage version. Lots of fans obviously wanted the Sorceress to sit in the throne, but because her wings are so weird, Mattel put a slot in so you could slide the rear wings through it and allow her to sit on the throne. No politics, no biased opinions paid for by shady studio back-handers (take note IMDB) and no preaching.I don't know but it's kind of a cool effect that definitely seems more inspired than just plain green. Instead of putting the power sword (or anything, really) into a latch on the door, you slide the power sword into a little slot in the stone next to the door.

The idea seems to be that you strike the boars head and then have to dodge the giant fist on the other side.

The banner is attached to a plastic rod that pops out easily and can be moved underneath most floor plates.

I'm a pretty hardcore fan of a number of properties but I really don't know of any fandom that seems to get stuff done quite like He-fans and She-Ravers. Unlike the vintage Castle Grayskull you can not display this version with the two halves side by side. The 1980s incarnation was one of the more popular Christmas presents for pre-adolescent boys in the 1980s. Read more about the seller notes “Castle Grayskull comes in good played condition with its original box, which is the rare white version and the accessories shown in the photos. Like I said, I am die-hard Classics fan and supporter, but Origins has them hands down in the packaging and art department, and it isn’t even close. It's a decent sized trap door (not undersized like the MOTUC Castle Grayskull's trap door) and the figures easily fall through the hole. Castle Grayskull is one of the most iconic playsets of all time (perhaps the most iconic action figure playset of all time?
