About this deal

All good quality modern binoculars, including these Bresser Condors, will use optical glass that already has low dispersion properties, but some will go further and use special ED glass elements.

I have to say that that whilst the cover on this Bresser binocular works well in that it protects your lenses and fits very well into the ends of the barrels, my preferred choice would be the usual as option as it is much more convenient and you are less likely to misplace lens covers that are tethered to the barrels. For an 8x42 binocular these are small and lightweight, which certainly adds to their versatility and is especially impressive when you consider that they incorporate many metallic parts like the magnesium chassis, focus wheel, and eye-piece housings.

Best Binoculars 2022

All the image specifications on this instrument are impressive, but it is the extremely wide field of view that really stands out and is certainly a particular strength of this instrument. This will most certainly be an advantage to wildlife and especially birders operating at short to mid distances where the wide view makes it easier to locate and then follow fast, sometimes erratic moving critters!

Comparing them against other mid-sized instruments, you can see from the table below, they do well, beat some other top-level instruments, but are not what I would describe as being a particularly wide-angle binocular. Unless you specifically require a wide field of view, for most users the view is plenty wide enough and I never felt constricted whilst looking through them. As well as performing extremely well in these critical areas other reasons I opted for the 8x42 Hawke Frontier X over the other contenders is that they have a very high build quality level and a very good or excellent performance in every other area. Indeed they literally have no major weaknesses. This makes them a very versatile instrument that will not only stand out in most types of wildlife or birding situations but many other areas as well and certainly up there with the best binoculars I have ever used at this price level. Bresser does not mention the exact makeup of the elements within their objective lenses, so I cannot comment here. The airtight interior is also filled with a completely moistureless Nitrogen gas which prevents the internal optical surfaces from fogging up under certain circumstances. Taking into account all their very top-end features, components, workmanship, attention to detail and the fantastic performance that comes as a result of them combined, the outstanding BBR score of 88% is not surprising, but when you also factor in that the Maven B1.2 binocular costs less than half that of an "alpha" instrument, yet comes extremely close to matching them in just about every aspect then even though most of would not consider them to be cheap, they do in my opinion offer incredible value for money and make a more affordable option for the professional or serious binocular user.

The colors you observe through these Bresser Condors look true to life and I never observed any sort of tinting that you sometimes get, especially on binoculars that use cheap optical glass for the prisms. Now I will be the first to admit that I am far from knowing everything about optics, but even so, I have a lot of experience and thus I think the information I give is still far better than that written by people who have never even tried the device they are reviewing, no matter how much they know... or don't!

Then there is the action, which is lovely and smooth with absolutely no free play or stiff points anywhere along the entire focal range. In terms of the brightness of the view, these Bresser Condor 10x42 Binoculars easily performed as well as my mid-level benchmark and it was only really in poor light conditions that there was an observable difference in image brightness between these and my alpha binoculars. The Hawke Frontier ED-X with it's ED (extra-low dispersion glass) lenses and phase-corrected, dielectrically coated roof prisms and many other highest level optical components ensured that they scored an outstanding 9/10 for both the optical components and final image quality sections when I tested them. In fact, with a total score of 87% on the BBR scale, these Hawke binoculars also match or beat many high-end binoculars that cost double the amount of these. This is another small but excellent attention to the small details that Bresser show on these binoculars and I feel is well worth highlighting. Initially, I had not planned to have an under 400 price category, but being somewhat in no-mans-land between the categories above and below, I felt that these Bresser's are just too good for me not to bring to your attention: Bresser Pirsch ED 8x42 Binoculars

If this is all confusing as to why, then I encourage you to take a moment to go over my complete guide to the exit-pupil and how it relates to the available light and the size of the pupils in your eyes. Optical Components & Coatings Lightweight, reasonably small mid-sized instrument with a very comfortable open-bridge body shape, makes them a pleasure to carry about and use just about anywhere and everywhere you go The combination of all these extremely high spec optical components results in what I thought was a truly exceptional view. Indeed I gave it a score of 10/10 and thus truly believe it is as good as it gets. What is more, I would just like to reassure you that every single binocular, monocular, scope or night vision review you see on BBR is 100% my honest and unbiased opinion on that instrument. To be fair to Bresser though, there are very few instruments that have phase correction coatings in this price range unless they have been heavily discounted. Coating Comparisons
