If you attend a CrossFit facility, there’s a good chance you’ll be using ski ergs more than rowers. You are motivated by the group setting that way, pushing yourself to your limit! With a ski erg, you just step up to the machine and start pulling on the handles. There’s no need to power it up or strap into anything. Here’s a collection of favorite SkiErg® workouts from the Concept2 Team. They range in length from 20 to 45 minutes. The rower is 60 to 70 percent lower body. The SkiErg, on the other hand, is more of an upper-body cardio workout. Both can be programmed to deliver exceptionally difficult and challenging workouts. Both offer different stimuli so their effects cannot be compared exactly. Is Ski ERG Good for Weight Loss? Another idea would be to have different handle options. The handles are already form-fitting and super comfortable, but having different handle options can add another element to the workout.

Yes, it provides a full body workout. The Concept2 SkiErg helps you build strength and endurance by working the entire body in an efficient, rhythmic motion. Is the Ski ERG Cardio? As much as I enjoyed using the Concept 2 SkiErg during my CrossFit days, I don’t recommend it for everyone. The Concept 2 SkiErg is a relatively new piece of equipment in the fitness community and is not a very common piece of equipment you will find in many gyms. This may be in part due to the price of the rig, but I believe there is also an aspect of some people just don’t know about the Concept 2 SkiErg. That being said, you’ll still have to work hard. For my weight loss clients I want them to be aiming to burn 2000 calories or so per week through exercise alone, and the rest of their calorie deficit (which varies depending on their size, weight loss goals etc) are made up by calorie restricted eating. The classic (alternating arms) ski technique uses fewer muscles than double-poling, and generally has less leg involvement, but it is an excellent ski-specific training for Nordic skiers. It may be preferable to use a lower damper setting than is used with double-poling. Why does the SkiErg have strapless handles? Can I use my own grips with straps?

Get into the starting position by grabbing the handles and pulling them slightly until your elbows are at a 90-degree angle. This workout is a great one if you have a special additional movement that you are really excited to pair with your work on the SkiErg. Reinsert the fasteners you removed in step 4 and insert two additional fasteners to fully secure the ski erg to the stand. The Concept 2 SkiErg was very easy to assemble, and Concept 2 provides all the tools that were needed to do the job. All-in-all there were 12 screws that needed to used to put the machine together, it was not a huge headache like other machines have been.
